Nomads trade vehicles... ends in van fire

At the Box Van Dee meet up, Traveling Granny traded her car to Jonnie's Journey's sister for her van. The van was nothing but problems and in the end caught fire. There was talk of trading back early on in the transaction. That was met with laughter. The deal was done.
Now there is a lady, that just lost her husband, without a van. Her car is fine and in the hands of another. Was this a smart move? Should you trust a nomad just because you are "one of them"? Is the mantra of the nomads true? Is it one big happy family? Is it a community that looks out for their own?
