Kay and her household live a lifestyle of adventure while learning on the road as a family. Their master bedroom is fully stocked with necessities like a king-sized bed and washer/dryer combo. The little guy even has his room with plenty of storage for games, costumes, and a personal TV! There's a queen-size loft above a storage space alongside a large living room. The kitchen is highly functional with a residential fridge, a massive island, and a double sink with covers providing even more counter space.

The RV exterior has two awnings, pull-through containers, and an outdoor kitchen that's perfect for dinner around the fire or morning breakfast with the sunrise. This adorable family homeschools from the kitchen table and outside-schools in nature while traveling the nation.

VIDEO DESCRIPTION:

Christina travels the road in her 2020 Capri camper that rides on top of a 2011 Chevy Silverado. The interior is full of color and unique decor, including a wall full of stickers collected from breweries around the nation. There's an excellent stereo system with interior and exterior speakers.

Size can be deceiving in this tiny home as Christina has a queen size bed across from a 32" tv as well as a full-size shower! The kitchen has a Nova Kool fridge, convenient microwave, two-burner stove, and a flush mount sink. This rig has a 30-gallon freshwater tank and a 4-gallon hot water arrangement. With added storage and additional shelving, this camper has all one needs for a comfortable journey on the road!

Travel Trailer Living for RV Newbies - Buying & Prepping our first First RV!

WOW, there is so much to learn and so much to buy for RV Life! lol BUT it's totally possible to do it all on a $20,000 budget. We're here to show you guys our process and what we've learned we're going to need.

We definitely had our work cut out for us when it came to buying and prepping our first RV travel trailer for our first trip! Our RV Setup wasn't too complicated but took careful planning and patience. Before we could begin full-time RVing, there were several things we needed to get clear on, especially if our plan was to mostly learn how to boondock.

Having an RV checklist also helped us to stay organized in that process and we hoped to present our information in similar fashion.

OUR STORY
Hey! We're Olivia and Nathan 👋🏽 A couple from California.

We met back in 2014 in Monterey, California. I (Olivia) was a senior in college & Nathan had recently moved back to the area after living in Italy.

After a few “deep life talks” (ones that were so foreign to me) and hearing about the lifestyle Nathan had been creating for himself for the last 6 years, I wanted to spend more time with him.

We started dating and I learned how he’d moved to Cambodia when he was 17, Germany when he was 18, Italy when he was 20, and was itching to travel again.

I was fascinated and wondered HOW THE HECK DID THIS GUY PAY FOR ALL OF THAT?

Nathan would work in California for 2 years, save every dollar he could, move abroad, find a job in that country, live there for 1-2 years and then do it all over again. Each time, he’d learn the language of that country, acquire new skills & make lifelong friends.

I was deeply inspired & wanted to travel with him. After 1 year of working our butts off and saving every dollar we could, we moved to Australia. We lived + worked there for 3 years (learned to speak perfect Australian lol) & created online jobs so we could continue traveling full-time.

We were traveling South America when covid hit, flew home and bought an RV to travel the US.

Down to earth, entertaining, and informative is our goal — we want you to feel like you’re experiencing the day with us.

Starting small now is better than starting big, later.

If this year is your time for hitting the road, remember that lifelong memories can be made in any RV no matter how long or short the trip.

You've heard us say "start small, start now" countless times. When it comes to chasing down your dream, starting small is the key. That doesn't mean starting with a small RV. Rather, in the words of Theodore Roosevelt, "Start with what you can, with what you've got, from where you are".
In our case, we had to downsize our dream to make it happen and once we were able to shift our priorities to be more deliberate in how we were living, we were able to grow our dream into what we once imagined. Without question, had we waited until reality matched the perfect dream we had in our minds, we would have missed our window and KYD would have never happened.

Being the last episode of 2021, we thought this was an appropriate time to remind the KYD community the importance of chasing your dream, no matter how close or far away it seems. We become what we think about the most so never stop chasing your dream! It won't always be easy and sacrifices will be made, but we're confident you won't regret it, even if it doesn't go to plan.

This week we've been spending time with family and wanted to edit a "simple video" to feature all the amazing places there are to visit and explore. We hope this video makes you excited to hit the road in 2022 and prompts conversations to take what every step is next for you.
During the past several years, we've learned a few things about RV life and dreams.
1. RV Life can be the hardest in the beginning, so give yourself some time (and grace) to figure it out.
2. You'll make adjustments along the way to make it work for you and your family. Avoid jumping to conclusions or making decisions when you're starting out. Focus on learning and going with the flow.
3. You'll only remember the peaks and dips, so embrace the times when things don't go to plan. The unexpected plan B just might make for a better story than everything being perfect.
4. Dreams evolve over time. For us, our journey took us from seeing places to people. Be open to new ways to use your RV as you gain more experience.
5. Your dreams are more significant than you think. Taking time for yourself can recharge you making you even more available for others. You'll gain new perspectives and experiences that you can share with the people you need to encourage or mentor.

So, here it goes - Have you noticed that on Youtube, TV series, Documentaries etc all glamorize the RV Life? I remember that we watched an independently produced film a few years back about RV Life and the message that I walked away with was “RV Life will cure your depression” - well, let’s just say it won’t.

Oh, we’ve been on walks through the RV park and campground enough to know - we’ve seen the way some families interact with each other…..and sometimes we are impressed and other times we are heart broken.

Remember the saying, “Wherever you go, there you are?” Well, it’s true and where you go you bring YOU with you.

RV Life WON’T fix your family! It Won’t Fix your marriage and it WON’t fix your finances.

Life is a series of calculated risks.  But when we took the plunge to sell our house and hit the road as full time RVers we had a pretty good idea that we would love it.  And in the end, if we didn't we could just sell the RV and buy a house again.  However, full time RVing isn't for everyone and it's important to know all the nitty gritty details before you sell everything and attempt to live on the road.

For instance, I always needed a very strict schedule and if we didn't stick to it I would become very stressed and frustrated.  I learned early on that having a very organized schedule was going to be hard between breakdowns, bad weather, and our own newbie mistakes, our plans needed to be changed on a weekly basis.  So, I had to learn to go with the flow!

Thankfully, you can get used to most of the nitty gritty issues with full time RV travel.  However, if you know you wouldn't be happy with these 8 reasons why you shouldn't RV, then it's a good idea to not upend your life and attempt life on the road.  Testing the waters with RV rentals is an amazing way to get your feet wet and determine if you'd like full time RVing without the major risk of hating it after you've committed by selling everything from your old sticks and bricks life.  Check out the video below to see what we think are 8 reasons why someone should NEVER full time RV!
